NATURAL FIBERS AND THEIR PROCESSES

PALM FIBER

Native Palm of the Atlantic coast found on the Banks of rivers and streams. No pesticides or fumigants are used, different colors are dyed with plants such as walnut leaves, annatto leaves, turmeric and mud as well.

FIQUE

Natural fiber extracted for the MAGUEY penca, once de pulp is removed is washed and dried. Then it reaches the hands of the weavers. No pesticides or fumigants are used.

IRACA

Natural fiber extracted from de iraca palm, after is pulped and shredded, it is boiled for 3 hours and drained. The fiber harvest is done every month, no chemical or pestisides is applied. Natural dyes are used.

BANANA FIBER

The banana fiber is extracted from the trunk of the banana tree, pulped by hand. It is dyed with natural plants such as turmeric, achiote, lacra, onion, brisa, walnut, saffron and certified chemical dyes are used. No pestisides are applied to the fiber.

MOLA

Textile pieces that are based on the artisan tradition, handmade by the Kuna community located on the islets of the San Blas Islands. 

Made entirely by hand, using several layers of fabric, with the technique of appliqués by fine stitches, forming different patterns such as animals, flowers or geometric figures belonging to their culture. 

Each piece is the product of the unique inspiration of the artisan, which is why no two mola are the same.
